Migrating a reseller customer

Treat a reseller migration as a collection of accounts, domains, mailboxes and DNS changes.

Migrating a reseller means moving not just one website but potentially many cPanel accounts, DNS zones and mailboxes. Treat it as a project with an inventory and cutover plan.

Step by step

  1. Inventory every cPanel account owned by the reseller and record domains, disk usage and special DNS/mail requirements.
  2. Confirm the destination has enough capacity and compatible features.
  3. Transfer accounts using supported cPanel backup/transfer methods where available.
  4. Validate websites, databases, email and SSL on the destination before DNS cutover.
  5. Coordinate nameserver/DNS changes and retain the source until the reseller confirms the migration.
Important

Do not migrate a reseller based only on the WHM username. Missing one downstream account can create a serious customer-impacting incident.

Checks and troubleshooting

For large migrations, move in batches and maintain a checklist showing source, destination, validation and DNS status for each account.
