Master Reseller customers often want their downstream WHM resellers to present branded nameservers. The exact options depend on the upstream platform and DNS architecture.
Step by step
- Decide whether each downstream reseller receives unique nameservers or shares a branded pair.
- Confirm which IP addresses the upstream platform permits for nameserver use.
- Create registrar glue/host records when nameservers are under the reseller’s own domain.
- Ensure matching DNS A records exist and configure the reseller nameserver values in the Master/WHM controls.
- Test delegation externally before instructing customers to switch production domains.
Important
Do not invent nameserver IPs or copy values from another provider. Use only the addresses assigned for your service.
Checks and troubleshooting
When delegation fails, check registrar glue, authoritative DNS records and the nameservers configured in the reseller account as three separate layers.
