Terminating an account safely

A pre-flight checklist before permanently deleting a cPanel customer account.

Termination permanently removes a cPanel account and should be treated as destructive. It is not the same as suspension.

Step by step

  1. Confirm the customer, domain and username in both WHM and your billing system.
  2. Check your cancellation/retention policy and whether a final backup is required.
  3. Confirm there are no other domains, mailboxes or databases in the account that the customer still needs.
  4. Terminate the account only after the cancellation is authorised.
  5. Update your client system and release/clean up related resources such as dedicated DNS entries where applicable.
Important

Do not terminate an account merely because a payment is a few hours late. Use your documented billing process and suspension stage first.

Checks and troubleshooting

If an account was terminated accidentally, recovery depends on whether a usable backup exists. Contact support immediately and avoid recreating an account with the same identifiers until recovery options are checked.
