A cPanel migration should preserve website files, databases, email, DNS settings and account metadata while keeping downtime as short as practical.
Step by step
- Audit the source account and take a current backup.
- Lower relevant DNS TTL in advance where you control it and the migration warrants it.
- Use an account-transfer/full-backup method supported by the source and destination rather than copying only public_html.
- Test the migrated site on the destination before changing public DNS.
- Switch DNS, monitor web/email traffic, then keep the source intact until you are confident the cutover is complete.
Important
Dynamic sites can change during migration. Plan how you will handle orders, posts, email or database writes that occur between the final copy and DNS cutover.
Checks and troubleshooting
After migration verify SSL, cron jobs, PHP versions, database connections, mail routing and DNS. Do not cancel the source immediately after the first successful page load.
