WHM DNS tools let authorised resellers manage records for hosted accounts. DNS mistakes can interrupt websites and email, so changes should be deliberate and documented.
Step by step
- Identify the correct customer zone and copy the existing value before editing.
- Change only the record required for the task.
- Keep record types consistent: A/AAAA for addresses, CNAME for aliases, MX for mail routing and TXT for policies/verification.
- Save the zone and allow for TTL/cache behaviour.
- Verify the result using an external DNS lookup as well as the WHM display.
Important
Do not delete records you do not recognise on a live mail domain. MX, SPF, DKIM and verification records may be required by third-party services.
Checks and troubleshooting
If a customer reports an issue after a DNS edit, compare current values with your saved originals and identify whether the problem is authoritative DNS or cached data.
