When a cPanel account reaches its disk quota, uploads, application writes and email delivery may fail. Increasing the quota without understanding the cause can hide an underlying problem.
Step by step
- Check the account quota and actual usage in WHM.
- Ask the customer or inspect cPanel Disk Usage to identify large files, mailboxes or backups.
- Remove genuinely obsolete data or move backups off-account.
- If the customer needs the space, move them to a larger package or increase the quota within your upstream allowance.
- Confirm the account can write files and receive mail again after the change.
Important
Never delete customer data simply to bring an account under quota without authorisation. Old local backups and runaway log/cache files are common candidates, but verify first.
Checks and troubleshooting
Quota displays may take a little time to update. If usage looks impossible, check for hidden directories, mail data and whether quota calculations need upstream attention.
