SSL certificates and HTTPS

Check AutoSSL coverage, fix common validation issues and understand mixed-content warnings.

SSL/TLS encrypts traffic between visitors and the website. cPanel can show certificate coverage in SSL/TLS Status, and many servers use AutoSSL to issue and renew certificates automatically.

Step by step

  1. Open cPanel → Security → SSL/TLS Status and find the domain and www hostname.
  2. Confirm a valid certificate covers every hostname you intend visitors to use.
  3. If AutoSSL is available, allow it to run after DNS correctly points to the server.
  4. Only enable Force HTTPS Redirect after a valid certificate is installed.
  5. After enabling HTTPS, browse several pages and check for mixed-content warnings.
Important

A certificate cannot normally validate when the domain points somewhere else or required DNS validation cannot complete. HTTPS redirection before a valid certificate can make a site appear inaccessible.

Checks and troubleshooting

For mixed content, update hard-coded http:// asset URLs in the application. If AutoSSL repeatedly fails, capture the validation error and open a support ticket.
