Changing your PHP version

Choose a compatible PHP version, check extensions and test the website after changing it.

PHP versions affect compatibility, performance and security for PHP applications such as WordPress. HostLaunch recommends using a version supported by your application rather than simply choosing the newest option.

Step by step

  1. Take a current site and database backup.
  2. Open MultiPHP Manager or the PHP version tool available in your cPanel.
  3. Select the domain and choose the required PHP version.
  4. Save/apply the change, then load both the public website and its admin area.
  5. Check application logs and key functions such as forms, checkout or scheduled tasks.
Important

A PHP change can expose old plugins, themes or code that are no longer compatible. Never make the change on a critical site without a rollback plan.

Checks and troubleshooting

A blank page or 500 error immediately after changing PHP often indicates incompatible code or a missing extension. Revert to the previous version first, then investigate the application requirements.
