Disk usage includes website files, databases, email and sometimes locally stored backups. An account at or near its quota can experience failed uploads, mail delivery problems and application errors.
Step by step
- Open cPanel Disk Usage and identify the largest directories.
- Check Email Disk Usage separately if mailboxes are consuming significant space.
- Remove obsolete archives, old staging copies and cache files only when you know they are safe to delete.
- Move long-term backups off the hosting account where possible.
- If genuine business data requires more capacity, upgrade the plan rather than repeatedly deleting needed data.
Important
Do not delete unfamiliar system or application directories solely because they are large. Database data should be managed through the application/database tools, not by deleting server files.
Checks and troubleshooting
If reported usage does not immediately fall after deletion, allow quota calculations time to refresh. Contact support if the figures remain clearly inconsistent.
